Petanque

Pétanque is played on an all-weather piste situated at the rear of the hall and is open to all senior members of the club.

Competitions

L'OIGNON FRANCAIS TROPHY - a doubles event held in May with partners drawn.

PRESIDENT’S DAY TROPHY - a singles knockout event held in June/July with the semi-finals and final taking place on President’s Day. In this event handicaps are applied to previous winners.

LE VIN ROUGE TROPHY - a singles event held in August.

BROUGHTON OPEN - a sponsored doubles event held in September. This has attracted strong competitors from various corners of Lancashire and with it a high standard of play. It started in 1998 and after a three year suspension due to club renovations it was successfully re-launched in 2008.

LE POUDING DE NÖEL TROPHY - a singles event held in December.

Except for the President’s Day Trophy, which is a knockout competition, the others are generally played initially as several games in a group before the final knockout stage.

In a new venture for petanque, Tim Threadgold, Nigel and Anne Parsons represented Broughton Club in a triples competition. They were beaten in a closely fought semi-final against tough opposition from Croston league players.
